How would you describe the work of modern artist "Kara Walker" and her use of the silhouette? Kara Walker is perhaps best known for her cut-paper silhouettes. She began working with these images around 1993 while a graduate student at Rhode Island School of Design. She mentions being drawn to early American silhouettes as she explored an interest in kitsch.
